Going Deeper with God
Weekly we suggest different spiritual exercises based upon and correlating with the Sunday morning sermon and biblical texts. Spiritual exercises are work-outs for the soul. They strengthen us from the inside-out, so that we become more and more like Jesus. When we examine the life of Jesus, we see him exercising spiritually every day. In the same way, when we do spiritual exercises, by God’s grace and the Spirit’s power, we become more like Jesus! - Karen Bables, Director of Adult DiscipleshipRemembering Sunday, February 19, 2012
Revelation 8:1-15; John 15:1-15; Pilgrimage in Prayer
The Spiritual Formation Bible gives this definition of prayer: interactive conversation with God about what we and God are thinking together.” (Spiritual Disciplines Index, p. 2302) This week, choose some way of experimenting with an interactive conversation with God.’’
• Read John 15:1-15 aloud three times. Before and between readings ask God, “What are you saying to me through this passage?” Then create space to listen. At the end of the passage ask yourself, “What does this passage teach me about my relationship with God?” And create space to listen.
• Use this prayer to shape your concerns in God’s presence:“Loving God, I hold in your healing presence
those who suffer pain and ill health;
those who suffer in mind and spirit;
those experiencing grief and loss;
those who need wisdom for their next steps;
those people/ situations that seem broken beyond repair;
those who are experiencing hurt and division;
May they know the deep peace of Christ”
