Monica was raised in a Christian home and even attended a Christian high school. But after one year of college she walked away from all faith, turned her back on God and lived a self-centered life. Over seven years drugs, alcohol, the birth of a son, and living with an extremely abusive man left her beaten down to the point where it seemed that she could not even be related to the girl she was in high school. On New Years Day she began to read The Purpose Driven Life and wondered if God had a purpose for her life. That week someone from Alpha program, who had met her once at her work, called Monica and invited her to Alpha. It was at the moment in her life she was open and searching. Looking at the circumstances she saw that God had been pursuing her because the invitation didn’t make any sense humanly. At Alpha she experienced love and support and getting reunited with God. The retreat took her another step in that journey.
