Hell
Would God send good people to Hell?
Doing good things isn’t the issue of going to Hell or not. Joe, this whole concept of doing, doing, doing, is one of the greatest spiritual concepts to come to grips with. The Bible is pretty clear on what is needed to inherit eternal life - John 3:16 says to believe in Jesus and you will be saved. Christians use the phrase “Good News” often when talking about their faith in Jesus. The good news they are referring to is the fact that their salvation is not contingent on doing good works as though they are gaining points to be used to gain entrance into Heaven. Their salvation is based on what has already been done, namely, Jesus being killed on a cross that takes away a believer’s sins. To grasp this concept allows a believer to live a life without the burden of trying to do enough to win favor in God’s eyes. The freedom this generates in a person’s life is often reflected in a desire to love on God in all areas of one’s life. There’s a pretty cool song that believers sometimes sing that talks about living their life as a long song to God. There’s a huge difference Joe, between living your life to be good in the eyes of creatures (humans) versus living a life of good in thanks to the Creator (God). This makes confession a really sweet thing as well.
