How does God feel about church?
I gotta believe there’s some background baggage to that question, Joe. First of all, let me say right up front: churches aren’t perfect. Style of music, depth of sermons, type of people who attend, inward focused or outward focused, are all things sometimes discussed among church-going people. Sometimes it’s a real turn-off to be around those kinds of conversations! But honestly, at the heart of the real issue is that it’s a place to nurture a inward desire to worship God. I have found that when my heart is focused on this, those seemingly important other issues disappear. The Bible talks about the church and refers to it as the bride of Christ. That’s a pretty powerful metaphor! I have found some wonderful friends through my church - all who have warts and issues just like me - but together, we support and encourage each other. It provides opportunity for community that is soooo woven into my inner being, and probably yours as well. The church also offers many opportunities to grow spiritually in my understanding of who God is and where I fit into His big picture. It’s not a requirement for salvation but it sure helps.
