  • Involvement in Worship Leadership

Although all in the community of faith are called to be active participants in worship, certain ones are called to lead others through the arts. CMC is a diverse community with an amazing combination of gifts. Our Worship/Arts philosophy is to develop a ministry based on the gifts that God has given His people. Let us know what God has laid on your heart or what gifts you may have, and we will find a place for you to be used!

At the present, we encourage you to consider…

    The CMC Sanctuary Choir

For 50 years, West Michigan has been blessed by the unique ministry of the Sanctuary Choir.  Under various gifted conductor/shepherds through the years, the choir is a family, called to lead in worship each Sunday.  Under John Bright for 17 years, the choir grew to nearly 200 singers, with Christmas Eve services drawing thousands to hear the wonderful Good News of Christmas.  Since John’s retirement, the choir is now shepherded and conducted by the Worship Pastor, Gary Matthews.  Not only does the choir lead worship in the Classic service each Sunday, they have a ministry outside the church as well.  This unique choir has sung in patriotic concerts and performs regularly as the featured choir for a Holland area July 4th Fireworks Celebration attended by 30,000 people.  Recent dramatic interpretations of some of the great oratorios like Handel’s Messiah, Haydn’s Creation, and Mendelssohn’s Elijah have been performed before sold-out audiences.  Choir rehearsals on Wednesday evenings are not only a time of learning music, but a time of worship, building relationships, and growing in our spiritual journey.  This is open to all, high school age and up.

    Worship Teams

These small teams of instrumentalists and singers lead primarily in the Sunday morning 11:15 am e.p.i.c. worship service.  There are constantly expanding opportunities to develop more and diverse teams of leaders.

    CMC Orchestra

A combination of various ages and experience, the CMC Orchestra leads in worship on the second Sunday of each month.  Music is practiced on their own, and then rehearsed the morning they play, at 7:30am.  They lead in the Classic service and also participate in special concerts throughout the year.

    Various Instrumental Ensembles

Constantly expanding, the Brass and Percussion Choir presently leads in worship the fourth Sunday of each month and we also are occasionally led in worship by a Flute Choir, a Woodwind Ensemble and various combinations of String Ensembles.

    Westminster Bells

This bell choir is open to anyone high school age and above.  No experience is necessary, yet an understanding of basic music reading is needed.  The Westminster Bells rehearses each Wednesday night from 8:30-9:30pm and is directed by Jackie Timmerman.

    Praise Choir

Beautiful singing with great fun and laughter can be heard coming from their rehearsals on Wednesday evenings at 5:30pm.  This is for 2nd - 5th grades and they sing from September-March.  The Praise Choir leads in worship occasionally as well as sings in the Advent Children’s Concert in December and in the Children’s Concert in early March.

    Cherub Choir

Led by Tonya Book, these K - 1st graders love to sing their songs to Jesus.  Rehearsing each Wednesday night at 6:00pm from September- March, they also lead in worship occasionally as well as sing in the Advent Children’s Concert in December and the Children’s Concert in March.

    Little Lambs

Led by Jon Hoffman, these pre-schoolers are introduced to singing by rehearsing in just November and December in preparation of participating in the Advent Children’s Concert.

    Sacred Dance Team

Youth and young adults serve on this team to lead in the visual expression of worship in services as well as concerts.  Working with professional choreographer and dancer, Catherine Dreyer, experience and training in dance is a necessity before joining this team.

    Visual Arts

Sacred worship space enhancements, banners, symbols, icons, and various art worship expressions are created by this team.  Also led by Catherine Dreyer, they seek to aid the worshiper to sense the Lord in the visual.

    Technical Teams

Sound, Lighting, and Media Presentations are all an important part of the CMC worship experience in all the various worship venues.  If you have experience and passion in any of these areas, this is the place for you!
