Like a Tree
Week 63
Learning by heart (tip): Only four more Sundays and we have completed our Like a Tree journey through the entire Bible! We will have gone through the whole counsel of God. Our single tip this morning for learning verses by heart is very simple: Persevere! Any worthwhile accomplishment in life takes perseverance.
- “My eyes are awake before each watch of the night that I may meditate on your promise” (Psalm 119:148). No late night television or computer time here.
- “I am yours; save me, for I have sought your precepts” (Psalm 119:94). Do you seek God and His Word more than anything else?
Finding the gospel (hint): Jude 21 is a beautiful verse to memorize because it is overflowing with the good news of Jesus Christ.
- Read John 3:14-21. How did God express His love for us? What is the only fitting and acceptable response to God’s love according to Jesus?
- What has the Father given us according to 1 John 3:1-3? Are you as enamored over this gift as John is? Why or why not?
Living witnesses (today): Today may be the right time for you to keep yourself in the love of God. Perhaps you are straying from God’s love. Maybe you are taking God’s love for granted. You may be so emotionally drained that you can’t feel any tokens of God’s love in your heart. Do two things today. First, put into action what God spoke into your heart through His preached Word. Second, meditate on the sacrament of the Lord’s Supper and the sacrifice of Jesus Christ for you.
Praying scripture (now): “Gracious heavenly Father, the creation tells me that you are my creator, but the Bible tells me that you are my Savior. Thank you for sending your Son, Jesus Christ, to be my Lord and Savior. Help me to keep myself in your love. There are so many temptations and threats leading me away from your love. Today I return home to you. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen”
